  1. Batman, being one of the few comic book heroes without actual powers, has connected with thousands of people over the years because of this fact. Instead of using Super-strength or Super-speed he relies on his superior intellect and gadgets to defeat his enemies. Most notable of his gadgets is his cape. His cape has gone through several changes over the years. From being just plain cloth, to fireproof and bulletproof cloth , to being given a flexible skeleton to use as a glider. The latter can exist in the real world because it acts just as a hang glider works. By increasing the surface area of his falling self there is more drag due to air friction thus slowing his decent to a gentle glide. So, if given the technological means, gliding vigilantes could exist in this world.
  2. The most critically acclaimed DC Comics Graphic Novel in history, "Watchmen", has the most creative plot that I've read and some of the most grounded and realistic plot devices used in comics. Given that it is still a story of superheroes, most of the physics involved do work given one miracle exemption. Click on the link to find out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmj1rpzwDRZ0
  3. For those of you who follow the CW's newest show The Flash, you would know that Barry Allen's greatest accomplishment is when he was able to punch Girder, a metahuman with the ability to turn his skin to steel, in the face without breaking every bone in his hand. He was able to do this by traveling 340.29 m/s aka the speed of sound. This would work because the force of the Flash traveling at that speed is capable of shattering even solid steel.
  4. After watching the original Superman movie from 1978, starring Christopher Reeve, I noticed something strange. This film has a reputation of being the best and most realistic of all the old Superman movies, so I found it strange that it has the most phoned-in plot device I've seen in a long time. Of course I'm referring to the ending where Superman, enraged by Lois Lane's death, flies so fast around the earth that he actually rewinds time to right before she dies. Watching this now that I'm older I know that time has nothing to do with the rotation of the earth, so is the original Superman really the best of the movies? (its definitely still a million times better than Superman IV)

    Batman

Batman was a great movie but I think u are referring to The Dark Knight Morganism.
  6. CATAPULTS WAS THE BEST LAB EVER!
  7. Understanding the physics of it will greatly help anyone's skill at lacrosse
  8. The catapults were the BEST project ever!
  9. This one is going to be a bit of a rant because it seems like everyone I talk to is obsessed with this show. But I have proof that it is not as great as some may think. (mild spoilers for episode 1) So in episode 1 a titan comes over the wall and begins to eat the protagonists' mother. As the monster bites down, the mother literally explodes with blood flying in every direction. I was recently told that the average human body has less than 2 gallons of blood in it. If you watch the video you will see that there is WELL over 3 gallons shown. So not only does the volume of blood defy reality, but the force of which it explodes is like a Michael Bay movie. When someone gets cut severely, it may squirt but it will mostly just leak and get all over. Not in this show. The blood comes flying out at speeds nearing 70mph. So yeah, I don't see why this show is such a hit because it is so inaccurate!
  10. In this week's episode of the hit show Arrow, Oliver and Roy have to disperse a crowd without being seen. They are positioned on a vantage point about 10 meters away. They both shoot an arrow into thee crowd that contains a tear gas capsule. So in order for them to hit their target, they would need to know the velocity required to hit it and at what angle to lob it so to not skewer any innocents.
  11. In the new Amazing Spiderman film they implemented an iconic plot point from the comics. (spoiler alert) Gwen Stacy dies. After I was emotionally drained from watching it I sat down and did the math of how it happened. Lets say that Goblin dropped her rom a height of 50 meters. She began falling from rest at an acceleration of 9.81m/s^2. She reached terminal velocity about half way down and had a final velocity of about 55m/s So, when the web hit her she was traveling roughly 55m/s and the hard stop was too much fore her neck to bear and snapped it. That....is how she died.
  12. As seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, Cap's shield has some incredible properties. It's made out of a fictional metal known as vibranium which has the ability to repel all vibrations making it virtually indestructible. Newton's 3rd law applies to this because if a bullet were to be shot at it, the force it hits the shield with is equal to the amount of force the shield hits the bullet. Just in the opposite direction.
  13. just you wait until Mr. Fullerton reads that you think he's "super rad." you'll never hear the end of it.
  14. That's about as good a reason as any to take this class.
