PoliceReport

Given the task of measuringvehicles speed on Cooper road by the Police Dept. The speed limit being 15.6meters per second, we found the speeds of ten different vehicles by firstlaying out 20 meters using a measuring tape. Using two stop watches we eachstood at one end of the 20 meters. From there as the vehicle passed we startedthe stop watch, when the front bumper reached the end we both stopped ourwatches. We both checked to find the average time of the given vehicle andrecorded it accordingly. When the car came into view before we took the time weexamined the car for the make, model, and color and try to read the licenseplate number.

Ourresults displayed that no cars were speeding at the time of the measurement. Thecars that were involved in the experiment displayed an average of 10.94 (m/s). Inorder to increase the accuracy of our experiment we should have had more peoplein our group, this would have increased our accuracy of the vehicle descriptionbut also more times to compare. Using more people would significantly decreaseour human error because the multiple times and deeper descriptions of thevehicle. Another usefull tool that could have been used was a laser timer, by placingone 20 meters away from one another the clock will start as soon as the carpasses through the laser and will be stopped when it crosses the other end. Thiswill rule out all human error in the timing section.
