Introduction

The Speeding Lab Project was used for the purpose of seeing if cars were speeding above the speed limit on Cooper, 35 mph. Measuring the speed of the cars passing by, we measured out 20 meters and timed the cars on how long it took them to drive that distance start to finish.

Procedure

1). Went on to Cooper Road, with materials

2). Measured out 20 meters along the road

3). With one person standing at either end of the 20 meters, with stopwatches, the cars were timed

4). After gathering a description of the car, someone wrote down the time of their travel.

5). Then we averaged the two speeds of the people’s times that were collected, then converting it to meters/second. \

Calculation

                Distance (20 Meters)/Time Traveled (Seconds) =Average Speed (Meters/Second)

Conclusion

In this lab, we were able to discover that on average each car driving down cooper road traveled about 6-10 meters per second. Although to gather a more detailed and engaging analysis, we would’ve measured over a longer distance making the information gathered more accurate, as well as then converting that information into more understandable units of information, for instance Miles/Hour.

Regarding the speed limit on Cooper Road, there is absolutely no problem with drivers speeding over the limit. After making the conversion, the average speed of the cars we collected was well under 35mph, the speed limit. Depending upon the conditions of the road, drivers’ speeds would vary to the data we collected.
