Our team will provide the mayor with a detailed accident report that includes mass, velocity, and momentum of both vehicles both prior to and after the collision. Further, the mayor has requested we find out what happened to assist with the insurance company’s investigation.

First we found velocities of both cars with kinematic equations. We set up a table with our given values which were acceleration, distance, and final velocity. Using the kinematic equation Vf^2=Vi^2+2ad we found the initial velocity for the SUV to be 2.83 m/s and the initial velocity for the Subaru was 12m/s.

To find the momentum we set up a table that shows the objects momentum before and after the collision. The Cadillac’s momentum before the collision was 3000kg multiplied by the unknown velocity. Its momentum after was 8490 N*s. since the Subaru was stopped it had a momentum before the collision of zero because the initial velocity was zero. Its momentum after was 24,000 N*s. then we added the total momenta before the collision to get 3000kg times the unknown velocity. The total momentum after was 32,490 N*s. due to the conservation of momentum law the momenta have to be equal so we divided 32490 N*s by 3000kg to find the initial speed of the SUV which was 10.83 m/s. the speed of the wagon before the collision was still 0m/s

We had to find if the SUV was speeding so we converted 10.83m/s to km/hr and found that the SUV was traveling at 38.89km/hr this means the SUV was speeding therefore it was the SUV’s fault that there was an accident.
