I'm already "that guy"

I'm taking ap-c physics because ecology didn't fit into my schedule. My counselor said it was a good choice because I was such a boss in ap-b. I like to emphasize the word "free" in free period and not do my homework. I hope to get a passing grade out of ap-c this year and not be completely bored doing it. I'm most excited for chilling after the ap. I'm most anxious about doing my summer project and reading my summer book. I am yet to show up on time to mr. Fullerton's room yet, and I plan

lab

lab is due today and ThisGuy isnt handing it in. Not because i didnt do it but because it made this much sense to me: . there is nothing there. I dont get how to use excel to make these graphs, because my data is no where near linear. It looks extremly expotentioal to me and all linear trending lines are very wrong. Since I cant find a linear best fit line, i cant answer any of the questions so im not handing it in. this sucks since i probably wont get home until 11 tonight and the never

how i ruined the soccer field

I drove onto the soccer field. I hit the gas. i no move. Why? i was on mud. Mud has a lower coefficient of friction then grass or dirt, which is a problem since it is the force of friction that propels the car foward. The coefficient is not high enough to cause enough frictional force to move the car, thus the wheels turning in place. Now if I were to end here, my wheels would be turning, causing little damage, along with no movement. Interstingly enough, my wheels dug 8 inch holes

WA gripe of the night

im doing this problem: A horizontal force of 161 N pushes a 6 kg block up a frictionless incline that makes an angle of 27° with the horizontal...find the normal force. Okay well according to every physics lesson i know and mr F's notes online the component of gravty opposite the normal force is mgcos(angle). so id did (6kg)(9.8m/s^2)cos(27). That gets you 52.39 and WA says thats wrong. i disagree. Also, looking at a practice problem, the answer they provided was greater than what the norma

yup

i went to the lib to pick up my boy tippler...and the lovely miss hanns alerted me that i had taken the book out 15 seconds after i took out the calc book it september.....yup it was hidden in my sisters closet, no idea how it got there, thats embarrasing

Sigh

So basically if you're not good at rotational motion, you were screwed out of 30 points. Darn ap writers. E and m.....I like m and ms better. Not a fan of the second half of the year, I'd rather deal with stuff I can see. Plus, I might be missing a month of school before the ap. who doesnt like a challenge

Adding impulse to injury

As most of you know, tonights hockey game is probably one of he most important of the season, because it is in memory of Tyler Putnam. Plus, we are expecting lottttts of people to attend. As many of you also know, one of the two "starting" goalies is injured, leaving on one left. Well he got hurt last night at practice by a shot that snuck through his pads and caught him in the knee. So, since he must play tonight his coach said to cushion his knee, so when he falls on it the force is re

Freeze em

Hockey is unique. It is the only one of the four major sports in the US to not use a ball. Also, it is the only sport to deep freeze the object used (pucks) to 14 degrees F. Ponder this: Skates dont work by cutting into the ice, but rather melt the ice. Energy is converted into heat as the player moves which causes a very very very thin layer of water to glide over. If this works for skates, why are pucks used at such a low temperature? Well, the melting prinicple doesn't work for pu

what a freakin buzz-kill

aight. so i had this pretty sick blog post all lined up....i drew a picture and everything.....then i realized: i don't have a scanner. What a buzz-kill. So now im going with the cliche, boring, normal , agonizing "my week in review" blog post. First off, the notation of physics makes no since. Second, the math makes little since. Third, eric is an amateur. Fourth, i started to vaguely understand mr f on about Wednesday at 2:45. Fifth, I put the quiz in its place. Sixth, **** i forgot about

2x the post = 2x the points

i was just wondering, do engineers do the physics behind every machine they build and is it worth the time? Picture designing a brand new truck engine from scratch. An engineer wants to build the most efficent engine possible with the least amount of resources. Hypotheticlly, he could do the physics and calc to figure out what design works best, but is it worth his time? I would say no, heres why. Physics on paper and real physics are very different. Figuring out exactly what would ha

lab

one) finished the webassign 11 hours early! tw0) I started a new rotation in the hospital, I work in the Animal Research lab....yes i assist in infamous animal testing. We dont, however, test cosmetics, instead we test new surgical styles with lasers, the effect of light on wound healing, and nutrition in ICU patients. Some of the things we have in the lab are very physics related. One device we have measures the amount of K, Na, and Li in urine and blood (i was too lazy to look up how t

A friendly reminder:

When taking your physics test, and you keep getting negative answers to problems that should be positive, and you spend the first 20 minutes of a test on the first page, make sure your calculator is in degree mode. Love, ThatGuy (who left it in radian mode)

What exactly is physics?

To answer this question, ponder this situation: You walk into a lab and there is an experiment taking place, how do you know what kind of lab you walked into? If its green, slimy, and growing, its bio. If it involves fire and smells bad, welcome to chem. If it doesnt work, welcome to fisiks. yay physics jokes. fisiks with phullerton.

who knew

This morning in the lab we had a little physics throwback. Stop. uh. Back-it-up. AP_B/Chem remember those spectormeters we used? the cardboard things that broke up the light into colors? Well i got to use a real one today to find the wavelength of a laser. Basically you shine whiteish light in one hole so you can see the scale in the back, and the laser in another portal. You look through the lens, and spin the dial until you see a thin line the color of your laser, you line it up with t

group labs

we all were thinking it....group labs when eric does the work, koss works logger pro, reed takin charge on everything and raising his voice.....i like it. Yes there is some yelling some crying and lots of yawning, group labs are still the best thing ever. Lets see, currently koss is finding random facts about diego rivera, eric is yelling (shocker),nick is playing with expensive toys to amuse him, im just chillin and watchin and ooop...theres mr f reading over my shoulder. Now reeds on a c

test next period....guess what i learned yesterday.....The integral is the area under the graph!!! so if J=S(Fdt) Then i can just find the area under a force vs time graph.....yup gonna be usin that on the test. Now impulse. and hockey. When catching a pass in hockey, experinced players know catch the puck. they must let their stick give to the puck, or slide the stick backwards as the puck hits it. Since the puck needs an impulse apllied to it to stop, the player can reduce the force of

the test that stole my blogpost

no good blog post this week. Why you ask? well first of all, the web assign took me forever. Second, this review packet is deadly since half these questions take like 45 minutes just to understand what they are asking. Plus, i found one question with not enough info to answer, and to be honest, i don't care why 45 degrees offers the maximum trajectory nor am i ever going to need to prove it in the real world, so i left that one blank. plus googling for answers takes like 15 years, even afte

"Playing the Angles" pt 1

Aight guys, this picture shows how angles effect goaltending in hockey. The puck can take many possible paths, but in order to be "on net" it must travel inside the angle drawn by connecting the posts to the puck (the lines in the picture). Because this narrows as it moves closer the the shot, goalie can cover more net by moving towards the shot. The skull and crossbones shows that as the goalie moves out, the shooter has less space to shoot at. Next week, how far
