Impulse and Momentum

Have you ever wondered why a catchers glove is bigger than a regular glove? This is because when they catch the ball after a fast pitch the longer they can take to slow the ball down the less of a force their hand feels. This is shown in the equation, force=impulse/time. If they were to catch the ball with their bare hand the ball would come to a stop quicker than with the padding of the larger glove resulting in a lot of pain from the force.

I enjoy taking classes that chalange me and keep me thinking and that is part of the reason i am taking AP-C this year. I also like to learn how stuff works and why different things happen. I am taking AP-C this year because i enjoyed AP-B last year and want to further my physics knowledge this year. I am hoping to learn alot this year to help me next year in any physics classes i have to take in college. I am anxious about all my AP tests this year because i am taking three AP. I am also excite

Physics in soccer

When i play soccer i see physics a lot. There is the obvious projectile problem of when a ball is kicked or thrown but i also see it many other places. For example when a ball curves. This is caused by the spin on the ball creating high and low pressure around the ball causing it to curve. I also see physics when we play on different surfaces like either turf of grass. Each playing surface has a different coefficient of friction causing the ball to roll farther or shorter than you would think. A

begining of csi lab

Two men, Tom and Bob were at a party and got into an argument. Tom said that Bob had stolen money from him. Both left in their cars still yelling at each other leaving the parking lot. Later Bob was found dead in his car from a crash. Tom had run into his car from behind at an intersection. Bob was waiting in the intersection to turn left and Tom said he didn’t see him and tried to stop but didn’t have time to stop. Many think Tom purposely hit him at full speed. At impact the two cars locked to

Physics i notice while driving

While driving i think of physics. For example i often wonder what the coefficient of friction is for the brakes to slow down the car. Also i see while going up a hill i have to hit the gas more because it takes more work to go up a hill with the increase of potential energy while keeping the same kinetic energy. I also think about the scenario of how fast i can go around a curve in the winter on the ice depending on the coefficient of friction between the ice and the tires compared to the coeffi

A cat falls 19-Stories and survives

I saw a video on yahoo news today where a cat falls 19-stories and survives and the reporter seems stunned. If only she took physics with us she would know that is is because of the aerodynamics of a cat and the terminal velocity of their fall to be able to spread themselves out to slow themselves down. Here is the link to the video.http://news.yahoo.com/video/bostonwbz-15750588/cat-survives-19-story-fall-in-boston-28691018.html
