SHM in everyday life

It seems that everytime you learn something knew, it becomes obvious in every day life. I swear everytime I learn a knew word, I'll hear 10 people use it that day, when I've never even heard that word used once before.

Well that seems to be happening with Simple Harmonic Motion. Even though we did a whole unit on it last year, I'm just starting to notice SHM everywhere now. What sparked this thought was that I just set down a bowl on top of a smaller bowl, and it rocked back and forth for about a minute with a fulcrom on either side of the bowl. Simple harmonic motion happends everywhere and if you pay attention, you be sure to catch it in action

Isn't it amazing how you can find physics everywhere in life, even when you're not looking? If only that worked for apple pie...
