Daydreaming in Economics...

So far this week in class has brought down my stress level concerning physics quite a bit, but that's probably because we haven't learned much new stuff yet. Still, I'll take what I can get! The quiz went pretty well for me today and I would do very well in math if our universe was one-dimensional!

Anyway, while I've been daydreaming every day during AP Economics, I've noticed that tons of sirens go off during the course of the period; apparently eighth period is a dangerous time around here! I never really understood the Doppler effect last year, but the book I read this summer made it all click for me and I've been thinking about it in economics this week. The book I read was Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku, and one of the concepts it discussed was the possibility of traveling faster than the speed of light. While this is not possible by today's science, it may one day occur by simply changing the shape of the fabric of space-time. To travel from one place to another at extremely high speeds, one must "scrunch up" space in front of them and return it to its normal shape behind them. I may be way off base, but I thought that this was similar to the way that the Doppler effect worked; for frequencies to appear different to us, the wavelengths in front of a noise-making vehicle must be shorter than those behind. So, the crazy concept from Mr. Kaku helped me understand a relatively simple concept from last year. I'm looking forward to making more connections to physics as this year goes on.

Live long and prosper,
