when we hear music what is produced is sound waves which travel to the eardrum and vibrate causing us to hear certain frequency. the closer you get to a speaker of sorts when listening to music the louder it gets because the wave lengths are becoming shorter and the sound waves hit you closer thus causing a fuller and louder sound.
