Have you ever wondered why a catchers glove is bigger than a regular glove? This is because when they catch the ball after a fast pitch the longer they can take to slow the ball down the less of a force their hand feels. This is shown in the equation, force=impulse/time. If they were to catch the ball with their bare hand the ball would come to a stop quicker than with the padding of the larger glove resulting in a lot of pain from the force.
