  1. Hi Isaac. A Red Sox fan -- excellent! Favorite players? Welcome to physics. (PS -- be nice Michael!)
  2. Good Morning Amy. I read the first couple books in the Game of Thrones series some years back, but it's one of the few fantasy series I gave up just because it got so depressing with everybody assuming room temperature. This past summer as I was recuperating from shoulder surgery I started watching past seasons of the HBO show, though, and I enjoyed it again (though it's still depressing). If I ever get caught up I want to go back and re-read the series and see if I enjoy it more this time. And other favorite books/series? Make it a great day!
  3. Hiya Michael. Do you have a single favorite song? Favorite group or artist? I'm a big Billy Joel fan, and also enjoy the Barenaked Ladies. Origami and scarf making could be very valuable skills in the right contexts!
  4. Good Morning Ed, and congrats on the Link Leader position. How's it going so far? A Bills fan, huh? Any predictions for the season? Make it a great day!
  5. Hiya Grace! Welcome to physics! If you're interested in being a teacher, perhaps you'd like to teach a lesson in a couple months once we get settled into our class routine? Come see me if you think it'd be fun!

Hi Joe! Where in Vermont do you go? I've been to Burlington / Essex Junction, but that's about the extent of my Vermont knowledge. Oh, and I jumped in Lake Champlain on Valentine's Day to join the Polar Bear Club.
  7. Good Evening, and welcome to APlusPhysics! I was a photographer in a previous life -- LOVED it as a hobby, especially wildlife and sports photography. Do you have any particular photographic interests? I'm a terrible baker, but I love taste testing for others (hint hint...) I'm hoping we can find all sorts of things about physics you enjoy, even if they don't play a strong role in future career choices. Sounds like a good goal. Thanks for sharing, and make it a great day!
  8. Hi Peter, and welcome to APlusPhysics! Thrilled to have a guitar player in class as well (I have a piano and three guitars at home, though I like to play loud and with two little ones I don't get many opportunities to play without interruptions!) Maybe I can bring the 12-string into class in the spring when we talk about resonance and talk you into a demonstration? And I'm jealous about having goats in the backyard. Growing up in a rural area we had plenty of neighbors and friends and my brother and I always loved playing king of the hill with the goats -- fun critters when you're a kid. I don't think I could get away with having a goat here in the suburbs, though! Make it a great day...
  9. Welcome Josh. Another volleyball player (I'm a volleyball player as well) -- what position do you play? And I'd LOVE to hear more about you. We get the coolest students on here, and I'm always excited to learn about the amazing things you do. Make it a great day!!!
  10. Good Evening Mike, and welcome to APlusPhysics! Interesting potential career choices -- I actually started out as a newspaper writer / photographer, and I have a friend who's a police officer who is interested in coming in to visit us this spring as we're talking about radar and radar guns. Great guy, and he literally teaches the course on radar guns, so should be an interesting day if we can work it out. Also, you'll find a lot of our work on projectiles, collisions, etc., all have very direct correlations to future police work. Maybe we can even do a "CSI" day and investigate crime scenes!
  11. Howdy Kyra! Welcome to physics, and you're absolutely right, physics should help your chemistry, and vice versa (chemistry is actually a subset of physics, and we'll overlap on more than a few topics) -- but we'll start out the year studying motion, forces, collisions, explosions, and energy transfers. Then we'll learn about electricity, magnetism, circuits, then transition into waves, sound, light, optics, then finally finish up with modern physics -- atoms and their pieces, and some other cool aspects of waves and matter.
  12. Hello again JMan -- any thoughts as to what discipline in engineering might appeal to you?
  13. Hiya DJ -- welcome to physics! Thrilled to find another STEM enthusiast -- great arena to find a job in these days. Looking forward to a fun year...
  14. Hi Jman -- sounds like you've done a lot of traveling -- what's been your favorite place to visit? (Any predictions on the Bills this year?)
  15. Hi Lia! Thrilled to have you in physics, and looking forward to seeing you in the musical in the spring!
  16. Hi Trevor, and welcome to APlusPhysics. Great first post, but you're slightly off (in the wrong area). I moved this into the "introductions" section. Hope you don't mind too terribly. If you get stuck, come see me and we'll figure it out together! Thrilled to have you in the class! (PS -- what's your favorite position to play in baseball?)

  18. Hi Mark, and welcome to APlusPhysics. I'm betting it's going to be an interesting year for all of us with the switch from AP-B to AP-1 and AP-2. Best wishes on a tremendous school year!
