  1. Physics is in dodgeball no matter what you may think. There is kinematics along with work and energy. This is almost all in the throw of the dodgeball and how you hard and fast you can throw the dodgeball. The energy is used for the ball through the air. if you throw the ball it has a certain kinetic energy as it flies towards its target. The energy of this is based on how fast you can get the ball with the initial velocity and the kinetic will remain the same if you neglect air resistance. the work is shown through how much you move your arm and how far the ball has to fly. the ball is displaced and the force you throw with is the amount of work the ball made. there is also kinematics because you can use it to determine the distance that the ball will travel after you release it from your hand. this all shows that there is more physics in dodgeball than most people realized. the kinematics will show distance and velocity. the work will show how much was done by the person and the ball through the air. and finally there was energy because that there was kinetic and potential along with internal.
  2. gravity makes thing more fun because without danger you can't have fun
  3. physics doesn't like the lightsabers apparently but plasma can be made so we're almost there
  4. Dart throwing uses physics to get the dart to the bullseye and get the highest score possible or if you are playing different dart related games to get the numbers that you need. Throwing darts uses different parts of physics to have the dart hit the target in the area that you want it to. Projectiles and energy to have the dart move through the air and to the target. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRkg2zI4qLuZQhKx--Y_UdKk5MaKRGFgmx59CgycvZwAWUIGoRImw The darts are a projectile because they are thrown at an angle and you need to find the best angle with the correct initial velocity to get the dart to the board. The angle at which the dart leaves your hand is usually less than 45 degrees so that the dart goes toward the board and not at the ceiling. Even though the optimal angle for most anything else is 45 you need to change the angle and the initial velocity to get the bullseye. the gravity brings down the dart and this is why you need to aim 'higher' than the bullseye. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTb9a-28ZH2rwYKXkuDsWXqvIHDSGSg2riJ3jAWzUw8DlJL8IZmxQ Also you use work because you move your arm which is the displacement and you force the dart to move forward toward the board. Darts use work to make their way to the target because they have to move and the force exerted by the person is on the dart. The darts use the work to make it to their destination. This shows that darts uses physics, by using different equations you can find out everything you need to know.
  5. great physics in showing how everything has to do with the movement of the ball
  6. Good post i learned why racing skis are the way they are
  7. Diving uses physics because it is all about the movement of the diving board and person. The diving board and the person each have different physics uses but they work in harmony to get the 'job' done. Diving uses so much physics and we have explored each section of the physics. The board uses physics by giving off energy. The potential and kinetic energy work together to fling the person into the air and give the maximum height so the person can do what dive he/she is doing. The energy is transferred from the person as they jump from the board and land on it again. The person is then pushed back up and off the diving board using the board and their leg muscles to get even higher into the air. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT2aR_Fhx6017wLbJjsmBfSYKtx0meAMDRjcSdU6C23OwpdOxNq The girl/guy uses physics by gravity of falling towards the water after the boards transfers the kinetic energy to the person and immediately after they leave the board they feel the effects. The diver as they are trying to fight gravity with the use of the board work to get the dive done. Work is used to create force which in turn creates momentum when they stop their arms abruptly by grabbing their legs or bringing them as far as they can to their side for twists and flips. Diving uses physics to let the divers do what they need to and pull it off in a good way to impress people.
  8. In physics class at Irondequoit High School Students did a lab to show gravity close to the earth’s surface. The students showed that the gravity is approximately 9.73m/s^2. This is a .82% error compared to other research. The students found this out by dropping a ball and timing how long it took for the ball to hit the ground from two meters. As the group of three dropped and timed the ball they recorded the results of the three trials they did. Using the time, distance and initial velocity they found out the acceleration for each time. The group used the kinematics equation ‘d = vit + (1/2)at^2.’ When they rewrote the equation they got ‘a = (d – vit)/((1/2)at^2).’ After they rewrote the equation the group plugged in the numbers they got for the three trials and for the three trials they got the gravity as 8.91m/s^2, 11.1m/s^2, and 9.18m/s^2. Then averaged the three to get 9.73m/s^2. Which is .82% off compared gravitational pulls which is 9.81m/s^2 found by other people.
