Jim Kadel
'Physics Advantage' is a pilot online seminar for those taking their first course in high school physics. Consisting of 3, one hour sessions on consecutive nights, it is given in August, just *before* the school year starts. Its purpose is to give participating students an advantage by preparing them in fundamentals that remain important through out the course year. The idea is not to delve into the formulas, problem solving, etc covered in h.s. physics, but to accent that which is often not given sufficient time for new student comprehension. {a situation due to a school's scheduling constraints necessarily imposed to cover the material} Example: this seminar accents the differences between the exact numbers in math, and the measured numbers of physics. Related concepts of significance, uncertainty and the requirement for all measured numbers to have units.
