Newtons 3rd law vs lifting

As many of you know I am a wrestler in order to stay in shape during the off season I lift weights. Using Newtons 3rd law I can tell you that the amount of force that pushes down on my hands is the amount of force I'd need to push back in order to just hold the weight(keeping it in equilibrium) But let's say I wanted to pump out a couple solid reps, you know build some muscle and get swole, then I'd need to apply more force in order to accelerate the weight in the direction corresponding to the workout.
