physics in catapult break

during the catapult day my groups catapult was held by a door hinge and was held with the force of tension by bungie cords. what had then happened during our second run was the door hinge had snapped right off from the wooden board thus destroying the catapult. the physics in this has too do with the amount of tension that was placed upon the hinge because of the screws holding it into the board and the bungie cord thus pushing it forward at too fast of a velocity. the hinge had then over extended causing much tension and creating issues. the screws had so much force applied on them and were forced out of the wood entirely.
