  1. Hiya Brenda, and welcome to APlusPhysics. Do you have younger siblings? They could be pseudo-pets... Bonaventure is a great school, and Olean is a fun little town -- tons of great restaurants (The Beef and Barrel is one of my all-time faves!)
  2. Thrilled to have you here Ari, and welcome to the APlusPhysics Community! Sounds like you've got a very busy senior year ahead -- outstanding! Would love to hear more about why you liked Earth Science -- maybe we can find a way to bring some of that into our classroom this year.
  3. Hi Hannah -- welcome to APlusPhysics! Lots of volleyball players this year -- outstanding! Back in a former life (i.e. around the time you were born) I coached down in Texas. And a uke player too -- perhaps when we get to waves you might give us a demonstration?
  4. You can all change your own profile pictures... when you list a specific interest, though, I try to give you a "starter" profile pic to add a bit of fun to our work. You're welcome to change it by editing your profile.
  5. Welcome to the APlusPhysics Community Ephysics!
  6. Hiya Jessica, and welcome to the APlusPhysics Community!
  7. Hi Bobby, and welcome to APlusPhysics! Any thoughts about what you might want to do next year?
  8. Thrilled to have you aboard, Max!
  9. Hello Jessica. Would love to see a picture of Lucy sometime, and that's quite the goldfish to have lasted this long. Excellent!
  10. Hi Miranda. Lacrosse and Boxing, those are two I don't hear together often (I've had one boxer in physics in the past five or so years, and he loved the class, so hopefully that carries over!) I love my dog too -- even more than most of my relatives. She's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. What type of dog do you have? <-- Cricket the Wonder Dog
  11. Good Afternoon Heather, I'm so glad to hear you're excited about the upcoming year -- I am too! I really want physics to be a class where you can relax, let your guard down, enjoy what you're doing, and focus on learning and exploring instead of worrying about grades -- we haven't talked about it in detail yet, but my whole grading system (I call it Skills Based Grading, or SBG) is designed to minimize the stress of grades and allow you to focus on what you know and what you need to work on. We'll figure it out and with a good attitude, we'll have a great time this year! http://aplusphysics.com/courses/regents/videos/SBG2012/SBG.html
  12. Good Afternoon Delaney, and thrilled to have you here. And having met you in person, I think you're anything but boring. Don't sell yourself short. What do you think you want to major in next year? (PS -- I like to eat and sleep too, but was an absolute wreck of a wrestler in high school!)
  13. Good Evening, Cara, and thrilled to have you as a member of the APlusPhysics community! What types of books do you enjoy? Do you also cook spaghetti and pizza? One of the favorite dinner nights at our house is when we make our own pizzas and I grill them out back. Good stuff. But, anyhow, that nap is sounding good, so good night!
  14. Good Evening Moritz, and welcome to APlusPhysics (and the United States!) Thrilled to have you with us and looking forward to learning much from you this year (and hopefully you can learn some good stuff too...)
  15. Hello Kelan, and welcome to APlusPhysics. What type of video games do you like? A lot of the more recent action games are very physics heavy -- the first-person shooters, races, even quite a few of the sports franchises.
  16. Welcome to the APlusPhysics Community Zach! I spent a few weeks out in LA this summer making physics videos -- when were you there last? It was mighty toasty there in July... What do you like to read? I'm finishing up "Shattered" by Kevin Hearne as well as "Getting Things Done."
  17. Hi Ephysics. Tons of physics in physical therapy -- gotta learn all the cool ways to torture your clients!
  18. Hi Grace. I teach physics and take my girls to the zoo all the time as a zoo member! Welcome to the APlusPhysics Community!
  19. I love the physics of Spiderman, and we usually even watch a few videos about the physics of Spiderman! A few years ago we even had a student (Paige Zorij) interview the author of "The Physics of Superheroes," Dr. Jim Kakalios. We'll watch some clips of him this year too! http://www.aplusphysics.com/podcasts/PIA/PIA_Ep002_Kakalios1.m4v http://www.aplusphysics.com/podcasts/PIA/PIA_Ep003_Kakalios2.m4v http://www.aplusphysics.com/podcasts/PIA/PIA_Ep004_Kakalios3.mp3
  20. Hello Erika, and welcome to APlusPhysics! Absolutely we'll talk about electricity and energy, and we'll touch on aerodynamics just a bit, but we can't go too deep there as really getting into aerodynamics involves a bit of calculus (doable, but a bit much for an intro course). Glad to have you aboard!
  21. Hiya Danny, welcome to APlusPhysics! Absolutely we'll talk about sound, sound waves, resonance, how instruments work, all sorts of good stuff!
  22. What types of animals do you like? Dogs rule, cats drool!
  23. Absolutely, physics is a HUGE part of engineering. Welcome to the course, the website, and a great academic year!
  24. Hiya Mitchell, welcome to APlusPhysics! I'm a baseball player myself -- still hold our high school's record for most home runs in a game -- 4! (Unfortunately I was the pitcher...)
